They were seperated for five years. I believe that while John Lennon was
madly in love with her, the feelings were not mutual. At every turn, Yoko
used Lennon to further her own ambitions and artistic career. Her showing up
on every Lennon solo album was hardly because she loved him and wanted to
advance his career.
I agree with everything you say. Still, one wonders why Ono would
make the "closet fag" remark. It looks to me like another instance of
her being contemptuous towards the man she supposedly loved.
This presumes she hates 'fags'. And that she has no sense of humor.

No, I don't make either assumption. Indeed, I know Ono has had tons
of gay friends (Havadtoy, Mintz, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, George
Speerin, Jann Wenner, et cetera); and that Ono herself has admitted,
"Many of the people I tune into turn out to be gay." As for Ono's
sense of humor, which her followers have been so eager to trumpet in
recent years, I don't buy the idea that this is a case of it.
I believe that this particular instance (Ono's description of Lennon
as a "closet fag"), is one of Ono being disdainful of Lennon. As she
was when she said Lennon's songs exhibited a "simple" "ba ba ba ba ba
rhythm," for example.
