Amazing what a degree in political science will do for your acting
career.

I did of course have to call my buddy Gilligan (S.P. - noted
Minneapolitan) to let him know his *ahem* "namesake" was deceased...

I always liked Green Acres more than Gilligan's Island, but saw Gilligan's
Island much more than Green Acres. I grew up with Bob Denver as Gilligan
and then as Dusty on Dusty's Trails (I have little recollection of this,
except that the guy from F-Troop was in it). Dobie Gillis was before my
time. Anyway, whatever your memory of Bob Denver, let's lift a glass in
memory of the man who was Gilligan.

it's on here nightly. GA that is, not GI. Not having cable/sat tv I
miss all that old crap...

<< Dobie Gillis was before my time. >>

just barely of my time. But I mostly saw it thru syndicated re-runs in
the arly 60's. Mostly overmyhead stuff then as I was just a small kid
at the time, but far prefer MGK over Gilligan as a Bob D role...

Oddly enough, the first time I had Bud was at a place called Ansty in the
middle of nowhere in the south of England, In fact the only place I ever
had Bud would have been Ansty. I also had a few Ansty Ales, though I don't
remember too much about those.

I hear Swanley is where they used to send train loads of horse manure from
the streets of London.

Seems you can't remember much at all about your life, database expert.
Still though, good to see you can hold down an SQL programmer's role
nowadays at least.

Good catch.

He couldn't be a hyprocrite, because he would never be able to spell it.

But he's gone to Queensland to have his blood flushed I think, so at least
we only have his attempts from Monday.

I wonder if he told the Toukley detectives and the QC about this...

"A bottle of bourbon, a case of victoria bitter, two bags of chips a bar of
chocolate, and I'll have the bong water changed by the time you get back
honest !"

All this talk about drug and alcohol consumption, and then he follows it up
with attacks on other people who may or may not have indulged in similar
activities in the past. What a loser and a hypocrite.

Sorry, not even one of those. Luckily, both of my parents are even both

LOL, having just started a re-read of FotR I also had to drag out what
I've always thought of as the best parody going - Bored Of The Rings by
the Harvard Lampoon (mostly Michael O'Donoghue and Doug Kenney, but
others as well, many of whom NatLamp readers and SNL viewers would
recognize...)

Anyway did some reading aloud for my son - he'd only seen the movies
and so hadn't any idea about old Tom Bombadil and a few other "scene
missing" things from the movie.

The Old Forest and Bombadil had so little to do with the story they would
have been cut by any publisher today as superfluous.

maybe, I don't doubt they may lobby against it, but given JRRT's
success with Hobbit, and it being a quite esoteric read, they may have
not gotten it?

I disagree that it's has little to do with the story. The quest of
destroying the ring, that I can see it pertains not to, but it gives a
sidelong intro to the Ents as well as some backstory to the history of
ME as it then stood. Not to mention a safe haven for readers who've
had the shite scared outta 'em by all those black riders hoofin' it
about the shirelands...

Again, you gotta read "Bored..." it skewers Bombadil rather well, LOL

I think I read something like it online.

What I meant was that if it had never appeared it the original story, it
would not have been missed. It's a plug-in, rather than part of the program
itself.

no, but Hendra, Kenney, O'Donoughue et al were both Havard and National
Lampoon alumni. I still have quite a bit of their "National Lampoon
Radio Hour" stuff, as well as "Lemmings" on tape somewhere in the reel
to reel vault...

I did an hour long interview with Bob back in June of 1994. I recently turned a portion of that interview into a YouTube slide show. I was also lucky enough to not only interview Bob, but later I worked with him when I hosted a special tribute to Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of "Gilligan's Island," when they both came to Montreal for Just For Laughs.

Here is the link to the YouTube video. Feel free to share it with Bob's myriad of fans.
