A new commercial (I believe it's for the AT&T app) has one Young Dude
asking himself: "How do I play "Whole Lotta Love?" IOW, he was
searching for tablature. eh On a related note, I still pish my pants
when Jack White (I still want to know why he was included in the docu,
"It Might Get Loud?"ehe) & The Edge look-on as Page plays the riff to
"Whole Lotta Love." Their reactions looked forced. eh

Jack White (I still want to know why he was included in the docu,
"It Might Get Loud?"
The Edge's highly-processed, rhythm-based style was a reaction, in
part, to Jimmy's blues-based virtuosity.

In other words, Jimmy had gone as far as possible in doing those
things. Edge went in the opposite direction.

Likewise, White's home-made, low-tech, no-bass player simplicity did
the same thing to The Edge's high-tech sound.

I think J White has moments of absolute awesomeness. Had the White
Stripes morphed into a full-on 4-piece band around their 3rd album
they'd have gone down as a serious powerhouse R&R band for the ages,
instead it's only moments of brilliance balanced by moments of
seemingly confused direction. My 2 cents anyway.

I think the White Stripes had an interesting low-tech, non-virtuosic
(especially drummer Meg White, who was never going to be confused with
Bonham, for example) sound, but they were kind of weak on songwriting.

Am I the only one who doesn't get his fascination with Son House?eh
Personally, I find his music to be the least interesting of all the
blues greats. Especially when compared to Hooker, Wolf, Dixon,
Leadbelly, Waters, etc. The guy's music was bland.

By his own admission, The Edge is nothing more than a foot pedal echo
gadget-man! He milks that one chord to infinity. IOW, he has no real
talent when compared to Pagey.

He must also suffer from Tourettes! eh What is wrong with this Jack
White guy?eh I also caught his performance when he joined the Stones
on stage, ala Scorsese's "Shine A Light." I would have much rather
seen EVH besides The Edge & Page.

The Edge has a LOT in common with Jimmy Page. Each of them was the
main musical instigator in the biggest band in the world.

Zeppelin's reign lasted from 1968-1980.

U2 has been the biggest band in the world from 1985 to the present.

If he has no real talent, how do you explain U2's popularity?

Too many tone-deaf people drinking from the same Kool Aid?ehe
Popularity doesn't necessarily equate to talent. See Jennifer Aniston,
Britney Spears, et al. Zep revolutionized rock 'n' roll. Has U2? And I
don't believe they are as popular as they once were during the '80s
-'90s. I rarely see or hear of them unless TMZ is pointing out that
Bono looks like Robin Williams. ehe While I dig a handful of their
tunes, they had too many fillers that spoiled the bunch. Whereas with
relatively hitless Zep, I can listen to their entrie discography
without having to skip to the next song. There are far and few rock
bands that you can do this with. BTW, I remember when Henry Rollins
tore into U2 on Stern, calling the bassist the weakest player in rock
music. LOL!

Honestly tell me, how many rock bands do you think are as talented as
U2? Not many come close. There are some rock bands who have had great
ensembles but ordinary singer, missing a guitarist or a keyboardist.
Zep had it all.
